The Process

Dr. Hill brings a unique and very personal approach to vocal study through his experience with singers of all types and ranges as well as his doctoral research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign resulting in his dissertation on Laryngeal Physiology.

Hill has served as Artistic Director (Conductor Laureate) of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus for 11 years, the Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus for 12 years, and Modern Men: Coachella Valley Men’s Chorus (Artistic Director Emeritus) for 10 years, as well as a member of the voice faculty at California State University at Fullerton for four years. A member of NATS (The National Association of Teachers of Singing), he has worked with both individuals and voice classes as well as designed and taught Vocal Pedagogy at CSUF.

The serious voice student will be given a thorough diagnosis of the vocal profile and then a thoughtful, efficient and rewarding series of pedagogical strategies which will address the findings of the diagnosis to help the voice, improve the singer’s confidence, and achieve a new appreciation for their own instrument.

Lessons are scheduled at the convenience of the student in Dr. Hill’s home studio, conveniently located in Palm Desert, California. After an initial diagnostic session ($50) to determine the student’s specific vocal needs, goals and objections, subsequent sessions are $50 which range from 30 to 45 minutes depending on the student’s progress from the last session.

Testimonials

After struggling with significant vocal issues for nearly a year, working with Stan Hill was transformative. In just two sessions, he dramatically changed the way I sing. He showed me how to integrate more air and resonance while relaxing the entire instrument. The results were almost instantaneous. My voice feels freer, easier, and more open than it has in a long time. I can’t recommend Stan enough!

Thanks for an enjoyable lesson last week. You make it easy for me to remember what I must do, you listen intently to what I need to improve on, and you correct me with the proper exercises that have helped improve my voice. You also phrase your advice in a positive way which encourages me want to strive to get better. Your years of experience certainly helped improve my voice and you make singing such a fun experience. Thanks so much for your precious coaching, Stan!

I have been singing since I was 5 years old. That adds up to almost 60 years now. My voice has changed over time as have many things about me. Some of those things I welcome, but others definitely need a tune up. In just two sessions with Stan, he was able to pinpoint bad vocal habits and start me on a path to a healthier way of singing. Stan Hill is a vocal wizard.
Sing out!

I have been working with Stan for about seven weeks, following a recommendation from a fellow singer in my a cappella chorus. Before beginning lessons, I had been frustrated with my voice since being discharged from the hospital about 11 months earlier. I had lost my upper register, my singing often went flat, and I struggled with breath support. In just seven weeks, Stan’s exercises have helped me expand my range and strengthen my breath support, allowing me to reach notes I never thought possible. Most importantly, I have regained confidence in my voice – an essential part of singing in a chorus.
